2018 Lexus GS F

July 29, 2025

The Story

Bought this car in 2019 with less than 200 miles on the odometer. Swore I wouldn't mod it and 6 years later that has gone completely out the window. I love taking it to the track, so there has been an emphasis on function over form. However, effort was made to make it look as good as it drives. This car comes with a naturally aspirated 5.0L V8 from factory. Some nickname it the "Sushi 'Yote", a nod to it being similar to a Mustang Coyote but with a Toyota twist. While it was a lot of fun for several years, I decided to go all out and supercharge it. I have a Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing on order and I can't wait to compare the two cars on track. I always felt like Lexus held back with this car and that if they really tried, they could have made a super sedan capable of going toe-to-toe with the M5 and Blackwing. That's what I wanted to make. In the pursuit of such a goal, I focused first on handling and chassis, then finally power. For suspension, I turned to Ohlins. The shocks on this car are the same ones Lexus uses on their RCF GT3 racecars, and it shows. This thing corners in ways that defy physics. There is zero body roll. For chassis, Tom's Racing underbody bracing really stiffens this car significantly, removing any unnecessary flex and undulation. My track setup is as follows: 19x9.5 +24 with 265/35/19 tires up front, 19x11 +40 with 305/35/19 tires in the rear. These wheels are magnesium for even more weight saving, tires are Michelin Cup2R. They are not the same as the street setup you see in the build pictures. And finally, power - I went with RR Racing's supercharger kit. Tuned on 93 pump gas, this GS F makes 603whp on Dynojet. With all of these upgrades, I benchmarked this car against my friend's 2022 Audi RS7. On a 1.78 mile course, the Lexus was consistently 1.5 seconds quicker on timed flying laps. I can't wait to see how close it can get to an M5 CS or CT5-V Blackwing. There is still more time to be gained, however, since I have a set of carbon ceramic brakes but have not yet installed them. It's still pretty cold here at the time of writing and I have a lot of life left on my current brakes so I'd like to make the most of them before swapping them out.
