The Story

Hello! I am currently working on a 2007 RX8 motor swap project. I got the car a year and a half or so ago, not running for 1500 bucks. I was happy to pay that amount considering the car has zero rust, pretty clean paint, very few small dings (only 3) and the interior is spotless. I originally wanted to do an REW swap on it, but after seeing how ridiculous prices were when really digging into it, I decided I'd go a different route. Admittedly, I should have probably done more research before even buying the car, but I fell in love with the styling, unique doors, and chassis qualities. After some digging, I found that the cheap GM LFX motors are a well known and treaded swap. I'm doing this project ridiculously slow, due to lack of time, space and tools, but it'll get there. When all is said and done, it'll have the gm LFX engine, which should produce somewhere around 300hp at the wheels, depending on tune and a few other things. It will have a Camaro RS Mv4 Aisin transmission mated with a monster clutch, custom prop shaft, Ford 8.8 carrier with 3.73 gears and a limited slip diff, custom drive shafts, all new bushings, and I'm reconditioning the paint on subframes and suspension parts, being sure to get rid of all signs of rust. I'm also hoping to paint my engine bay, and clean up the wiring some, since I hate the giant looms on either side of it. Along the way, I'll likely paint some other parts as well, just to learn and have a bit of fun. I've attached some images of the process so far. It's been fun, enlightening, and difficult but I think it'll be a fun car to drive when all is said and done. Cheers!
