Mk7 Golf R

February 22, 2024

The Story

I bought this mk7 R after my Evo X got totaled. I considered getting another evo but decided to try something different but with the same 4 cylinder turbo and awd layout. I was initially a little bored with it...but then the mods started. I now understand why so many people love these things and the GTIs. It is so responsive to mods and makes power so easily its like driving with cheat codes (especially with the DSG). The haldex AWD isn't as sharp as the Evo was but for daily driving with the occasional track day it's plenty enough. The hatchback body makes it perfect for doing ikea shopping in the morning and then stopping by the track on the way home. The aftermarket is incredible with the number of companies that support the mqb platform and the community is massive. Also, since so many people have these things, saving money by buying used parts isn't hard. Obviously the car isn't without its faults. The dreaded water pump failures are common with these mk7 golfs along with carbon build up on the intake valves . But as long as you keep up with maintenance these cars are some of the most bang for buck you can get.
