Apex Wheels

Apex is a U.S.-based company out of Southern California. Their flow-formed wheels are manufactured overseas (most production happens in Asia), but engineering, design, and quality control run through the California office. If you're comparing them to brands that manufacture domestically (like Forgeline), the price difference reflects that. Apex is upfront about their process, which is more than a lot of competitors can say.

Most of the Apex lineup is flow-formed, which sits between a standard cast wheel and a fully forged one. Flow forming takes a cast barrel and spins it under heat and pressure to stretch and compress the aluminum. You get a thinner, lighter, stronger barrel than a gravity-cast wheel without paying forged prices. Apex does offer some forged options in their lineup too, but the flow-formed stuff is what built their reputation. For track guys who want light weight on a realistic budget, flow-formed is the sweet spot.

Apex covers a wide range of bolt patterns. BMW (5x120), Porsche (5x130), Honda and Toyota (5x114.3), Subaru and Scion (5x100), Ford Focus RS and Volvo (5x108), and more. They're known especially well in the BMW and Mustang communities because they engineer application-specific fitments for those platforms. That means offsets and hub bores designed around a particular chassis, not generic specs crammed into a universal catalog.

In the flow-formed category, Apex competes with brands like Enkei, Konig, and Titan7. Apex tends to price a bit higher than Enkei's RPF1 but offers more application-specific sizing and offsets. Compared to Titan7, Apex is usually less expensive. The real differentiator is how many platform-specific fitments Apex catalogs. If you drive a popular track car (E46 M3, S550 Mustang, GR86, 991 Porsche), odds are Apex has a size dialed for your exact fender clearance and suspension geometry. That specificity saves you from guessing on offset.

Apex offers a limited lifetime structural warranty against manufacturing defects. That covers things like porosity issues or structural failure under normal use. It doesn't cover curb rash, pothole damage, or track incidents. Pretty standard for the segment. If you crack a barrel on a curb, that's on you. If the wheel fails at a seam or develops a crack from a manufacturing flaw, they'll work with you.

The range spans 17-inch through 20-inch diameters for most of their popular designs, with widths running from 8.5 up to 11 inches depending on the model. They also have some 15 and 16-inch options for lighter-chassis track cars. Offsets vary by application, and that's where Apex shines. Instead of offering five generic offsets, they'll have specific ones engineered for an E9x BMW or a 6th-gen Camaro.

Weight, fitment accuracy, and price. Flow-formed construction keeps unsprung mass down without costing forged money. Their application-specific approach means you're getting an offset and width that someone actually tested on your chassis, not a guess. And they sell direct, which cuts out dealer markup. The EC-7 and SM-10 show up constantly at HPDE events and club races on BMWs, Mustangs, Miatas, and Porsches. When a wheel becomes that common at the track, it's because it works and people trust it lap after lap.
