What Is Wheel Offset?

Wheel offset is the distance between the wheel's mounting surface and its centerline. It's measured in millimeters and falls into one of three categories:

• Positive Offset: The mounting surface sits closer to the outside of the wheel, positioning the wheel further inside the fender.
• Zero Offset: The mounting surface is centered on the wheel.
• Negative Offset: The mounting surface sits closer to the inside of the wheel, pushing the wheel further outward.

Even though we are talking millimeters, as small change in offset can take you from perfect fitment to "they have no idea what they are doing".

How Does Offset Affect Wheel Fitment?

Offset determines where the wheel sits in relation to your suspension and fenders. A wheel with too much positive offset may sit too far inward, increasing the chance of rubbing suspension on components or limiting brake clearance.

A wheel with too little offset (or more negative offset) pushes the wheel outward. While this can create a more aggressive stance, it can also increase the risk of rubbing the fenders or giving you unwanted wheel and tire poke.
