A Closer Look at The Kansei Astro

August 16, 2024

When it comes to aftermarket wheels, Kansei Wheels has carved a niche for itself with designs that balance function and form while also calling back to the era of 90s Japanese automotive styling. The Kansei Astro stands out as a wheel that embodies all of this. Let’s take a closer look at what makes the Kansei Astro such a popular choice for enthusiasts and whether or not it should be on your radar.

Kansei Astro Design

Kansei Wheels has become known for taking iconic designs and putting their own twist on them with modern sizes and offerings to fit the vehicles of today. While this may ruffle some feathers in the scene, they have undeniably rocketed to the top of some of the most popular aftermarket wheels in today’s market. Here at MartiniWorks we have labeled the Kansei Astro as an “Inspired Wheel Design” This means that it shares 40-80% of its key design features with an existing wheel design that is no longer in production or supported by the original manufacturer. While the Kansei Astro does share between 40-80% of it’s design elements with the iconic Blitz 03, Kansei has been able to bring this design to the market as a single piece flow formed wheel available in modern sizes and bolt patterns.

What is Formlite?

All Kansei single piece wheels are manufactured using their Formlite process. This is another term for flow forming which involves taking a low pressure cast face of a wheel and forming the barrel using heat and high pressure rollers to form its final shape. This manufacturing process helps keep the Kansei Astro lighter while maintaining a desirable load rating.

Kansei Astro Vehicle Fitment

One of the key aspects of the Astro model is its versatility in fitment. Kansei has designed this wheel to cater to a wide range of vehicles, from compact sports cars to larger sedans. The Astro is available in various sizes, offsets, and bolt patterns, ensuring that it can accommodate different setups and fitment needs. The Astro’s design takes into account big brake clearance as well, a critical factor for those who have or plan to install larger brakes. The concave profile and spoke design are great at providing space for larger brake calipers.
