I’ve owned Supras since 2010, just before I turned 18. In 2014 I purchased this one, which what was at the time my ultimate combo Supra… in theory! It was a black aerotop that had a 2JZGTE/Getrag/B03B engine/driveline installed by the previous owner.
Theory turned to reality… black paint, wow! What a pain to keep clean! A low compression (8.5:1) engine… turbo lag. Long final drive gears… all disappointed me. Then, I drove my mate’s heavily worked LS1 HSV GTS - I was converted from that day and then my Supra was shortly after!
Converted to a 6L LS, T56 manual, short final drive diff… then changed the diff ratio to a happy medium ratio to get perfection - 3.77. The 6L engine died and I then replaced with a Crate LS3 engine. Ah, the joys of cars!
Engine upgrades include a mild performance cam, PAC racing valve springs and higher flowing oil pump. Simple custom intake up front and past the factory LS3 headers is a full custom twin 2.5” exhaust system.
I sold the car in 2019 and then bought it back again in 2021 and concentrated more on the aesthetics. To start, fresh exterior lights from Toyota all round. Next was a new paint job and after months of trying to fight the right grey, I fell in love with a GM colour, which is used on many cars including the C7 Corvette. I had the metallic flake reduced though.
Interior has been freshened up too, along with a full sound system, including CarPlay, to bring things into the 21st Century.
I’m looking into starting another automotive journey, which in turn means selling my pride and joy for a 2nd time! It’s a niche market for this car, but an amazing machine.
