SSR GTX01 Unboxing & Review: A Lightweight Wheel with Style

September 11, 2025

SSR GTX01 Unboxing & First Impressions

We’ve been super hyped to get SSR wheels on the MartiniWorks site, and the first set that landed at our shop were a pair of SSR GTX01s a customer ordered (thanks, Daniel). So naturally, we had to crack a box open and see what these are all about.

While they aren’t cheap, they aren’t crazy expensive either. It’s a great option for someone who doesn’t want to go with your stereotypical JDM wheel.

What’s in the Box

When you pull one of these out of the box, you can feel that it’s not your average cast wheel. While the GTX01 isn’t a fully forged wheel, it’s still built with SSR’s flow-forming process, which helps trim weight while keeping strength where it matters most. The wheel feels solid but not clunky, something you’ll appreciate when it comes to unsprung weight, acceleration, and ride quality. Compared to heavier cast wheels, you can already tell the GTX01 was designed with performance in mind.

The GTX01 uses a 10-spoke layout that gives off that motorsport vibe without being over-styled. Each spoke is thin, slightly angled, and tied into the hub in a way that feels very functional. From the front, the spokes stretch all the way to the lip, which helps the wheel look larger and more aggressive once mounted.

Good Looks

The set we unboxed came in Dark Silver, which looks super clean in person. It’s not too flashy, not too dull, just a sleek metallic tone that will work on a ton of car colors. You can also snag them in Flat Black if you want that stealthier, track-inspired look. Unfortunately, these do not come with center caps but you can purchase SSR center caps separately that match the finish. They have spoke dimples that have no functionality, they just look good.

Little things like that help round out the overall premium feel. They also come with instructions on how to clean them which is a unique touch. It also comes with a sticker, which all of us love.

Our Takeaway

From the unboxing alone, the SSR GTX01 makes a strong impression. The attention to detail is there, the finish is high quality, and the design strikes a nice balance between race-inspired and street-friendly. They feel like wheels you’d confidently daily but also wouldn’t hesitate to throw into a weekend track session.

It’s easy to see why SSR has the reputation it does, they don’t just make wheels that look good, they make wheels that feel good. If this first set is anything to go by, the GTX01 is going to be a popular choice for enthusiasts who want lightweight performance without jumping straight into forged-wheel territory.
