2003 Infiniti G35

Updated

The Story

Before buying the 2003 Infiniti g35 coupe. I had a e46. I had gotten in from an auction and pretty much was looking for a project car long story short about the e46 there was to much going on like ex: a split camshaft causing it not to run. My buddy and I were going to put a 350 small block into it, but I was in my head saying that I would be better off buying a project car that I really want. Which of course was the G35. So, I was scrolling one day and I seen a guy was selling a g35 for 1,500$ not running. It went to 3 mechanic shops and they couldn’t figure it out the previous owner said. I looked at the car. I told myself I'm going to get this car started. I talked to the guy down to 1,000$ he was good with that. I brought the g35 back at home. Worked on the car day and night for 3 months trying to figure out why it wouldn't start the OBD wasn’t working. The IPDM (fuse box) had a particular fuse the kept popping everytime I replaced the 15 amp fuse. I bought about 8 packs of 15 am fuses to figure it out. Looked on YouTube still nothing there. Eventually, I told myself I was giving up, but still tried harder. One day I disconnected the entire harness one by one I plugged connections back in and it popped when I plugged the main coilpack in on the passenger side. I replaced with the cam sensors and she started right up. She was misfiring like crazy so I replaced all coilpacks and she ran smooth. From there….. last year she gave out when I was coming home from work and I put in reverse and the car just shut off. Almost, months of figuring it out checking timing, senors, wiring for continuity, starting system everything was good. 4 months later… it was the ecu the entire time. Some other things like the rear subframe I replace it ended up cracking right where the spring bucket is located. Due to alignment issues at a shop. Throughout, all the lessons and learns from the experience of restoring the g35. I definitely have gain a chunk of knowledge about particular vehicles. I’ve always loved the sleek design of the g35. In my opinion it’s one the best entry cars to buy when getting into the car scene. Even though g35 are notorious for takeovers and negative reputations. I wanted to show people not everyone abuses their infiniti. Some people ask to do a burn out or do I slide? I just say no and this car will never see that. Why I bought this car even though there was a lot of problems with it from the get go. I wanted to to test my mind. Learn what it’s like to have a project car. Too see what am I capable of doing with my own two hands .There are definitely more to come this year in 2026 the next project for my g35 is to do the g37 IPL front end swap. Why you ask? It’s because I love the g35 rear end but not some much of the front and with g37 I love the front and but not the back end. Only if Infiniti could do the from factory. That is the plan for the g35 maybe even a wide-body to flow with the unique front end but we’ll see….
