I've always taken inspiration from the Fast & Furious saga. Growing up, those movies and die-cast models molded me into a gear head. I didn't grow up in a family built around motorsport
Howeverif you asked any of my family members, they would tell you, "He would call out the names and cool facts about cars he saw" as we rolled by in our family Soccer mom van. As I've become an adult, my enthusiast dreams have blossomed and continue to grow into reality.
But I didnt start here, nor will it end with just my Nissan. I used to be a die-hard Volkswagen driver (VR6 FTW) But I since have took a leap of faith, alongside my wife buying my Laurel. Its not perfect yet, nor do I think a car ever can be perfect. However, I can't describe how right it feels when I'm in the driver's seat. It shows its age, but it is timeless.
Power to the rear wheels is sent by the infamous RB25DET Neo. A transplanted heart that has replaced the original NA RB25DE paired to a swapped 5 speed manual. Unfortunately these cars only came in automatic. The clutch has been replaced with a Spec stage 3+ clutch rated for 600+ WHP. I received the vehicle equipped with a presumably welded differential, and lowered on Final Konnexion Cobra Coilovers. Other modifications are currently in progress. My goal is to bring the car back to its true glory, and then some. The vehicle will be repainted in a shade of purple with obnoxious amounts of flake. It will take inspiration from period correct drift cars of the 90s. Fully kitted, blast pipes, and a flashy livery for extra authenticity.
Power goals are 500 WHP. In order to get me there, a full revision of the motors stock form. This will happen this summer/fall, 2026. Factory engine management upgraded to Haltech Elite 2500 and tuning done by Lindgren Motorsports. Fueling modified to harness the power of E85 with 1000cc Injectors, Radium fuel rail, and Walbro 525 fuel pump. A Stealth dual ball bearing 3076 turbo. Large front mount Intercooler, Replica Greddy intake manifold, and Platinum Racing Products 74mm DBW kit. Ignition coils have been upgraded to modern, LS style. Reliability mods include, Chase Bays oil catch can, Chase Bays thermostatic plate,Franklin Performance oil filter relocation kit, and a Mishimoto oil cooler.
Now as for the why. Every enthusiast should be able to remember the scene from Fast & Furious where Paul walker is driving his Iconic silver and blue R34 Skyline. The exhaust note is amazing. The engine—Legendary. The RB series of engines are truly fantastic platforms. They hold proven motorsport pedigree, they are rare in the States, and nothing beats the sounds of a turbocharged inline 6. But overshadowed by the Skyline due to its cinematic exposure, hides the 8 generations of the Nissan Laurel. I wanted to be subtle and unique in my selection. I saw the car listed as a sporty, responsible, low milage, and unassuming. The interior was surprisingly classy and comfortable. The more research I did, the more I had to have it. Now here I am, loving it more everyday. Just please for the love of God, its not a Chaser 😂
