1998 Volkswagen Golf GTI VR6

The story

Ive always been into mk3 platform for some reason. I got my first Jetta when I was 17 for $500 bucks, followed by a golf GL later on, slammed on racelands and modlines before it died and I sold everything. Fast forward to 2016 I was looking to get back into another one, and I came across this for $3600 bucks. Basically it was the car I always wanted my other cars to be when I was younger. The bones were good on it, but at somepoint it was in a collision front and rear so it got fixed with cheap aftermarket parts. After the repair it was missing pieces, loaded up with cheap yellowing crystal lights, and smoothed out texture trim. So bit by bit I set out to get it back to stock and start building it from there. A few years after that I started a seasonal job across the country so I'd drive it for the summer and park it in the winter. Eventually I made the full time move to Alberta and during that time the car stayed parked for 4 years in an old factory while i got my life setup here. During that time I collected a mountain of random bits from market place and some rare pieces (including seats that apparently came from a Porsche 901 that Alois Ruf now has). Fast forward again to this summer when I drove back east to get it out of storage and finish some work on it so it would pass an out of province inspection. That included pulling the motor and refreshing the top end, the whole cooling system, cleaning the undercoat out of the engine bay before replacing the engine. All that time away from the car was definately a blessing in a way because it allowed me to focus on what I want the end build to look like. With it now a couple days from being put back into winter storage, my sights are set on next summer with freshly painted euro bumpers, carbon skinned hood, and Pontus lip. Oem side skirts ready to go, RPI big brakes and a bunch of other little details that'll hopefully tie together this period correct build. If you read all of that, thanks, and thank you guys for the great podcast. It kept me fired up to follow through with the build!
