The early R56 Cooper S (2007-2010) uses the Prince N14 turbocharged 1.6L, and it has a rough reputation. Timing chain tensioner failures, high-pressure fuel pump issues, and carbon buildup on the intake valves are all well-documented problems. The 2011+ models got the revised N18 engine, which addressed the tensioner and HPFP concerns. If you're buying used, the N18 is the safer bet. Budget for walnut blasting the intake valves on either motor.
