When I decided to return to Formula Drift, I knew it was going to be in a BMW due to the undeniable competitive of the E46 chassis. The suspension geometry, parts availability, track record in FD, and overall “modern” chassis design makes this chassis hard to ignore.
However, I wanted to do something that isn’t as popular in FD as the E46 chassis: stuff a 2jz in place of the factory inline 6. Most people choose the ever popular LS swap, and being an LS guy historically I considered it heavily. After researching both options I decided that the packaging benefits of a turbocharged inline 6 were too good to pass up, and who doesn’t love a 2JZ?
