I picked up my Focus ST completely stock in 2020, and at the time I honestly had no idea how attached I’d end up getting to this car. I just wanted something fun that I could daily, modify a little, and make my own.
Over the years, that “modify a little” part got completely out of hand. Wheels, suspension, brakes, cooling, interior stuff, appearance changes, and eventually trips like the Tail of the Dragon all slowly changed what the car meant to me. It stopped being just something I drove and became something I was constantly learning through, whether that meant figuring out what worked, fixing something I messed up, or changing direction completely.
The Dragon was probably the biggest turning point. It made me care a lot more about how the car actually felt and performed than just how it looked sitting still.
At this point, the ST has been with me through a lot of different stages of my life, and I think that’s a big reason I’ve kept building it instead of moving on to something else. It’s still evolving, and I’m sure I’ll keep changing my mind on things, but that’s kind of what makes it mine.
