2018 Honda Civic Si

The story

I had just gotten back from taking my daughter to my hometown, El Paso, TX. I was returning home from my parent's when I was struck by a fleeing crack dealer in Milwaukee. So, I'm in the market for a "reliable" replacement. I go to the nearest Honda dealership, ask for all the manual car keys, walk the lot a little. This salesman comes out with 2 keys, I hear this chirp behind me, turn around and there she was. Lights on, the little flash it does when it locks again. I'm in love with this FC1 10th gen Civic Si sedan. I can't let the guy know how much I want it so I ask what else he has on the lot and there was this highlighter green FC3 two door version. Having my 14 year old daughter with me about to start high school, she deterred me from getting a two door. She always hated moving the front seat up just to be "couped up" in the back. So my baby girl helped decide that I was getting Pearl. I have had a few different turbo 4 cylinder cars before. I knew the amazing aftermarket support for Honda in general, leaps and bounds above all other sport compact designs on the market. Honda's legendary performance division. The storied history of reliability and performance wrapped up in a neat little package that packed a punch. I wasted no time in wanting to snazz it up and take my daughter to school in a stylish ride. To give her the attention when she got dropped off every morning. Kids would walk up to her asking who was dropping her off and that the car was so cool. I ordered wheels before I even took delivery of it from Fitment Industries. I ordered Suma Performance side marker lights. Then put on some Mugen style window vent visors. I waited an entire year before doing any performance mid. I took my daughter to a WCEC show with a couple of her friends after installing a Clutchmaster FX350 clutch with a light-weight flywheel and a down pipe, front pipe and tune from TwoStep Performance. Doing a lot of research and joining forums, hearing about all of the issues everyone else was running into with head gaskets, I felt nervous. I didn't expect there to be such a problem with keeping the seal until I looked at the design and tolerances between cylinder walls. I jokingly made a picture of my car with the Subaru logo on it and low and behold, I have been through 2 head gaskets so far. All installed at Rudz Racing in Elk Grove Village, great place and awesome people. Just part of the experience of owning the L15B7 engine when you have a little too much fun in boost. The last event I've been to was the MKE Racing Tacos and Taillights with my daughter to continue our tradition of hanging out at car events and seeing cool stuff for her 19th birthday. It's been 12 years taking her to something WCEC, Automotion, or some local car event and I couldn't be more proud that my daughter has had a pivotal role in why I want to continue to build things. It doesn't matter if it's a Chevy Cruze, an Eagle Talon, or a Honda Civic, my daughter has always been involved with why I had the things I had or even the little subtle touches to the designs and color schemes. Now I have been sharing in this experience with my fiance's daughter. Now 15 and loving every car show, dreaming of her own build that she wants to pursue. Raising family in the car community has it's perks, it's all of the smiles and good memories. It's all of the stories they come back with because they met someone new who asked about the car. They have made so many friends around these types of events and it doesn't matter what you own, there are people who understand the passion. Cars bring people together.
