1990 Mazda B2200

This truck has taught me almost everything I know It was just supposed to be a static oem+ daily driver (ha) Spent the first few years just counting up miles on it, replacing literally every wear item, and doing a static drop with a bunch of polyurethane, 4x4 torsion bars, and unpacked/modified/repacked leaf springs. A new engine went in, overbored and oversized pistons, all of the factory evap and egr equipment deleted, exhaust #1 done. I figured out how to trick it into not throwing a CEL from the missing evap and for the life of me I cant remember now 8 years later. At this point now it has a new trans with RX7 5th gear, lightweight aluminum Fidanza flywheel, massive Delta cam regrind with solid lifters, yet another exhaust system, and some creativity to make it all work with the factory ecm. You'd think that was the snowball but that was right about when the snowball started to roll. I ended up jumping on a ground effects kit that was sitting in a field in Louisiana since 1997 and had it shipped to WA. Learning how to fully mold that was an experience and took a few attempts. Now it was where I wanted it, and now I couldn't even get it on my dove tail low-deck trailer. It got sidelined for a while while I built a few s10s until I realized this was the truck I wanted to really focus on. I sold everything else and spent every penny on parts. The s10 i built was a few shades shy of an autocross rig, and theres no going back once you drive that. I got to work figuring out how to achieve that on an airbag system. Long story short, its now 5 linked with all solid bushings in the rear, gas tank and factory bed floor raised to clear. The rear end of the frame had to be shortened a couple inches, so it got a 1/4" thick 2x2 across the back, with giant triangular fiah plates in 3/16 across the entire corners. This was our first experience setting instant center and really trying to get the arm arc correct for minimal driveshaft plunge. Frame is narrowed in the front to retain shock placement inside the control arms alongside the bag for steering radius, and lower control arms got triangulated. This setup allowed me to keep the factory sway bar, although I'd like to switch to a torsion style aftermarket bar for some extra stiffness to equalize it with the rear end. It now lays frame 1/2" before the fiberglass touches the ground with the help of some long heavily plated drag bars i made. The rear wheels wouldn't tuck in the bed, so instead of narrowing the axle I made a 16g steel widebody. It's 350lb heavier than it was before, but at a few inches off the ground its still comfortable at double what the yellow signs suggest... If you bag it to lay out 2" below the asphalt, you get into the usable spring rate of the airbag and then you really get to find out if your leverage ratios are correct or not, lol I painted it in a friend's garage the next summer to stop me from modifying anything else for a little while (cab vents are shaved, rain gutters deleted, cowl is shaved, gas door lock shaved, bed wall sectioned, dash painted and interior painted and reupholstered, custom steel center console made and upholstered to house the air valves....) Tried lacing the entire roof on the canopy, that was an experience as well. Still have a lot to do but Im 25,000 miles into enjoying it on air so far.
