I found this car in 2023, for sale by the original owner. I gave a low ball offer and someone else bought the car! I couldn't stop thinking about it, I loved everything about it. It was totally stock and the interior was in excellent condition for the age. I fell in love with the design and the engineering behind the rotary engine. I searched month after month for another and never found one in that condition. A year later, 2024, that same RX7 popped back up on Facebook Marketplace. The engine wouldn't start and the owner didn't want to put in the time and money to rebuild the engine. I knew it was my time to finally buy this car.
It took a full 2 years to go through everything and fix it right. Everything was cleaned, simplified, and upgraded under the hood. the original 12A rotary engine has been fully rebuilt with balanced rotors and enlarged intake and exhaust openings. The entire engine bay was repainted while the engine was out. The wiring harness was simplified. Old school fusible links switched to typical car fuses. Points style ignition switch to electric from a later model RX7. As well as many other upgrades under the hood.
The entire suspension and braking components were rebuilt or replaced. The rear axle came from a 1985 RX7 with a LSD and rear disk brakes. Currently on lowering springs, looking to upgrade to BC Coilovers in the near future.
All dents, scratches, and rust were completely sanded and filled on the entire body before the vinyl wrap was applied.
By the summer of 2026, the car was in great driving condition and has been a blast to drive through curvy mountain roads. The lightweight car paired with upgraded suspension and engine horsepower, makes for a fabulous driving experience that makes you feel connected to the car.
