This is my 2013 Mazdaspeed3, I’ve had it for about a year and a half now. Originally I had a 2008, which I purchased many years ago that was abandoned for some years in California. If there was an issue common to Mazdaspeeds, my 08 had it. Timing, turbo, piston rings, PCV, it had it all. Some time after fixing up the timing, I blew the ring land off of cylinder number 2’s piston. Rebuilt the engine, but with forged internals. After moving across the country (with my entire life packed into the hatch of the 2008 that I rebuilt; no moving truck, just my Mazda and myself), I decided to purchase my 2013 and transplanted every modification from my 08 to the 13.
This transplant happened half way through going to a big turbo setup. What started with my abandoned 2008 put me onto a path I never would’ve expected to be on. The only thing OEM about this 2013 Mazdaspeed3 is the chassis at this point.
Exterior wise, some carbon parts have been fitted, some custom headlights and taillights; interior, my alcantara seats from my 08, gauges to replace the Mazda factory display up top, fitted the door cards with alcantara to perfectly match the limited 08 seats; under the hood, a fully built MZR DISI, with a keyed Focus RS crank, custom machined timing sprocket, Manley platinum pistons and Manley H beam rods, Crower Valve springs, a Focus ST intake manifold, Honda K24 sidewinder exhaust manifold (K24 flange cut and replaced with an MZR flange), a TurboSmart TS-1 5862–all mated up to a Mazdaspeed6 transmission. This isn’t just a built Mazdaspeed3–this is an all wheel drive swapped Mazdaspeed3. Using the Contrive kit, a CX-7 rear subframe, Focus RS rear shocks from Fortune Auto, a Mazdaspeed6/CX-9 hybrid limited slip differential, and custom made parts to make a stock Mazdaspeed6 shaft. Full Whiteline suspension, Fortune Auto 510s, tb performance bracing.
Unfortunately, it's close to impossible to list every single part on my car. The wavetops though for parts I haven't covered: Damond Motorsports PMM/TMM, Damond Catch Cans, Damond Transfer Case Caps, Contrive Design AWD kit, Volvo S40 AWD fuel tank, Speed6 drivetrain, Damond FoST intake manifold kit with port injection (id1050x + stock DI system), Chinesium K24 sidewinder, TurboSmart TS-1 5862 and HyperGate45, Walbro 525 fuel pump, Focus RS front brakes with Hyundai Sonata N-Line rotors to fit a Mazda, Mazda5 rear brakes, and so much more. I included some photos from when I was building this thing in the submission, but the build can be found on my Instagram under the same username (@built_in_the_lab) if anyone is interested in seeing a lot more content of my car.
This car was built to be my track queen. The heart of this car beats the blood synthesized from thousands of hours of labor.
