BL Mazda 3 Car Parts

The BL Mazda 3 landed as a sharper, wider rework of the first-gen platform. Mazda stretched the wheelbase by about an inch, stiffened the front subframe, and gave the rear beam a geometry tweak that cleaned up mid-corner composure. Two engines shipped in North America: the 2.0L MZR (148 hp) and the 2.5L MZR (167 hp), both paired with either a 5-speed manual or 5-speed automatic. Neither motor is fast. The 2.5 is adequate. The 2.0 is slow. But the chassis does more with less power than almost anything else in the compact segment from that era. Bolt pattern is 5x114.3 with a 67.1mm center bore. Factory wheel sizes range from 16x6.5 to 17x7 depending on trim (i Sport, i Touring, s Sport, s Grand Touring). Offset sits around +50 to +52.5 from the factory, so you have room to go wider and lower offset without pulling fenders on most setups. A 17x8 +35 with 215/45R17 is a common street fitment that fills the wells without rubbing on stock suspension. Drop it on coilovers and you'll want to check rear inner fender clearance, especially at full compression. The Mazdaspeed 3 shares the BL platform but runs a different turbo 2.3L DISI motor, bigger brakes, and wider factory wheels. Fitment data between the two overlaps on bolt pattern and center bore, but spring rates, ride height, and fender geometry differ enough that you should treat them as separate builds. Weak spots to know: rear trailing arm bushings wear out around 80k miles, and the passenger side motor mount on the 2.5 likes to tear. Fix both before you lower it.
